Pepal Kome-Kami

Pepal Kome-Kami
" Pepal Kome-Kami|Spirit of Craftsmanship × Japanese Subtle Aesthetics "
During the Edo period in Japan, society emphasised the thorough use of resources and developed a lifestyle oriented towards recycling.
With respect for this culture, we have created a "paper" made from rice and a "recycling system".
Our goal is to create a society that reduces CO2 emissions, eliminates food waste, and delivers resources to those in need.
Globally, one fifth of food is thrown away and the correct amount of food waste is 1.05 billion tonnes.
Rice is also used to enhance the colour presentation and strength of ukiyo-e and bonshi paper.
We recycle rice that has become inedible during processing and distribution and use it to make rice paper.
Inspiration from the rice field, condensed into the vitality of paper.
Kome-Kami is made from Japanese rice husk fibre, which retains the fibre's original shimmer, fine texture and natural beige tones during the paper-making process.
Each sheet of paper is like taking in the rustic aroma of rice, presenting a soft, warm and unique natural touch.
This is not just any paper, but a material that embraces the story of the land.
Let the paper go back to its original form
Pepal believes that paper can carry not only content, but also land, time and culture.
Pepal Kome-Kami is the realisation of this belief.
Between every glance, every touch, and every book.
You can feel it all--
Paper can be so alive.

Rice-based adhesive "Kome Bind" is used to bind the paper pulp, replacing chemical adhesives to achieve natural colour expression.
